It’s 2026. AI is no longer a gimmick. It’s an operational co-pilot for e-commerce merchants.
But one question keeps coming up in my conversations with PrestaShop merchants:
“Claude or ChatGPT? Which one should I pick to manage my store?”
The honest answer? It depends on what you’re doing.
And since I have the (somewhat crazy) privilege of working daily with both platforms connected to the same module — MCP Tools Plus for PrestaShop — I decided to settle this question once and for all.
Not with theory. Not with abstract benchmarks.
With a real shop. Real products. Real e-commerce tasks.
The Test Protocol
The Test Store
A real PrestaShop 8.x instance with:
- ~1,200 active products (fashion & accessories)
- 3 years of order history
- Multi-warehouse stock enabled
- Messy, incomplete data — in other words: real life
The Common Connector
Both AIs use the exact same entry point: MCP Tools Plus, the module I developed to expose PrestaShop data via the MCP (Model Context Protocol).
Same API. Same data. Same permissions.
Only the brain changes.
The 5 Challenges
| # | Challenge | What We’re Really Testing |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sales analysis | Understanding complex numerical data |
| 2 | Stockout detection | Anticipation and logical reasoning |
| 3 | Product description generation | Creativity + SEO + brand voice |
| 4 | Problem diagnosis | Multi-step reasoning on real data |
| 5 | Full autonomous workflow | Chaining actions without human intervention |
ROUND 1 — Last Quarter Sales Analysis
The Prompt
“Analyze my sales from last quarter. Identify trends, star products, flops, and give me 3 actionable recommendations.”
Claude (Anthropic)
Claude starts by asking clarifying questions:
“By ‘last quarter,’ do you mean Q1 2026 (January-March)? And would you like me to include canceled orders in the analysis or only validated ones?”
Then it retrieves the data via MCP Tools Plus and produces a layered analysis:
- Macro view: Total revenue, average basket, evolution vs Q4 2025
- Product view: Top 10 / Bottom 10, with margins (not just revenue)
- Behavioral view: Best performing days of the week, correlation with past marketing campaigns
- Recommendations: Specific, nuanced, with “however, be cautious about…” caveats
What impressed me: Claude spontaneously cross-referenced sales data with stock levels to flag that 3 of the top sellers were at risk of stockout. Nobody asked for that.
ChatGPT (OpenAI)
ChatGPT dives right in. No preliminary questions. It retrieves the data and immediately generates a visual report:
- Formatted tables with emojis and polished styling
- Text-based charts (ASCII trend representations)
- More “consultant” tone: punchy phrases, bullet points, bold numbers
- More decisive recommendations: “Remove these 5 references”, “Double the stock of X”
What impressed me: Speed and immediate readability. The report is “presentable as-is” to a sales director.
Round 1 Verdict
| Criteria | Claude | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Depth of analysis | 5/5 | 4/5 |
| Immediate readability | 4/5 | 5/5 |
| Reliability of conclusions | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Spontaneous initiatives | 5/5 | 3/5 |
Claude wins this round. Its ability to cross-reference unrequested data and nuance its conclusions is a step above. ChatGPT is “sexier” in presentation but more superficial on substance.
ROUND 2 — Stockout Detection and Management
The Prompt
“Identify products at risk of stockout within the next 15 days and propose a restocking plan.”
Claude
Claude methodically breaks down the problem:
- Retrieves current stock levels via MCP Tools Plus
- Calculates sales velocity over the last 30 days per product
- Projects stockouts by dividing stock / daily velocity
- Ranks by urgency (stockout in 3 days vs 12 days)
- Proposes restocking quantities based on supplier lead time (which it asks for if unavailable)
Result: A prioritized restocking table with an “estimated revenue impact if stockout” column.
Unexpected bonus: Claude flags that 2 products have negative stock (data error) and recommends an audit.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT takes a more direct approach:
- Retrieves stock and recent sales
- Generates an alert list with color coding
- Proposes immediate actions: “Order 50 units of REF-4521 today”
- Suggests creating an automatic rule for future alerts
The approach is more “act now” than “analyze fully.” ChatGPT wants you to do something right now.
Round 2 Verdict
| Criteria | Claude | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Calculation rigor | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Immediate actionability | 4/5 | 5/5 |
| Anomaly detection | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Business context awareness | 5/5 | 3/5 |
Claude wins this round, once again on depth. But ChatGPT scores points on the “stop thinking, start acting” aspect.
ROUND 3 — Product Description Generation
The Prompt
“Rewrite the descriptions of these 5 products (summer dresses) for SEO. Tone: elegant but accessible. Target: women 28-45. Include the product’s technical specs from the PrestaShop listing.”
Claude
Claude retrieves the product listings via MCP Tools Plus and produces descriptions that are… surprisingly human.
- Each description has a different narrative structure (no copy-paste template)
- It naturally integrates SEO keywords without feeling stuffed
- It adapts tone per product: more casual for a linen dress, more sophisticated for an evening gown
- It adds sensory micro-details: “The piqué cotton breathes with you through the hottest days”
Strong point: Claude spontaneously adds optimized meta title and meta description suggestions.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT delivers descriptions that are technically excellent for SEO:
- Suggested H2/H3 structure
- Well-controlled keyword density
- Each description includes an integrated call-to-action
- More “professional product sheet” format than narrative
- It even proposes A/B variants for testing
Strong point: ChatGPT simultaneously generates product FAQ suggestions (the “People Also Ask” kind) to boost SEO.
Round 3 Verdict
| Criteria | Claude | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Writing quality | 5/5 | 4/5 |
| Technical SEO optimization | 4/5 | 5/5 |
| Originality / variety | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Useful extras | 4/5 | 5/5 |
Near tie, slight edge to ChatGPT. If your priority is pure SEO, ChatGPT is formidable. If you want copy that makes people want to buy (conversion), Claude has a clear editorial advantage.
ROUND 4 — Operational Problem Diagnosis
The Prompt
“My conversion rate dropped 15% this month. Help me understand why by analyzing available data.”
Claude
This is where Claude crushes the competition.
Its approach resembles that of a senior consultant:
- “Before looking for causes, let me verify that the drop is statistically significant and not a seasonal artifact.” — Compares with the same period year-over-year
- Segments the drop by traffic source (if available in order data)
- Checks whether popular products are out of stock (stock/conversion correlation)
- Analyzes the average basket: does the drop come from order count or order value?
- Looks for temporal correlations: does the drop coincide with a price change, end of a promotion?
Claude’s conclusion (in the test):
“The drop appears primarily linked to the stockout of 3 best-sellers since the 8th of the month, combined with the end of your -20% campaign on the 5th. The decline is not structural but circumstantial. Recommendation: prioritize restocking REF-2847 and REF-3391, and launch a targeted offer for returning visitors.”
ChatGPT
ChatGPT produces a well-organized checklist of possible causes:
- Technical issue (site speed, 404 errors)
- Price changes
- Stockouts
- Seasonality
- Competition
It’s relevant but more generic. ChatGPT lists hypotheses where Claude prioritizes and decides using real data.
Round 4 Verdict
| Criteria | Claude | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnostic methodology | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Use of real data | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Actionable conclusion | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Nuance and caution | 5/5 | 3/5 |
Claude dominates clearly. Multi-step reasoning on interconnected data is its natural territory.
ROUND 5 — Full Autonomous Workflow
The Prompt
“Run a complete audit of my store: identify issues, propose fixes, and apply the risk-free ones.”
This is the final boss. We’re asking the AI to chain analysis, decision-making, and action.
Claude
Claude excels in the analysis and recommendation phase. It identifies:
- 47 products with empty descriptions
- 12 products priced at 0 euros (error)
- 8 categories without meta descriptions
- 3 products with missing images
But — and this is characteristic of Claude — it’s cautious on execution:
“I can fix the category meta descriptions and fill in empty product descriptions. For the products priced at 0 euros, I’d prefer you validate each correction since a pricing error could have direct financial impact. Here’s the list with my suggested prices based on similar products in your catalog.”
Claude does what’s safe. It asks for validation on the rest. That’s reassuring.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT is more aggressive:
“I identified 70 issues. I’ve already fixed 34 (empty descriptions, meta descriptions, missing attributes). For the remaining 36, here’s what I suggest…”
ChatGPT acts first, reports after. It’s faster but requires higher trust in the tool.
Round 5 Verdict
| Criteria | Claude | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Audit thoroughness | 5/5 | 4/5 |
| Execution autonomy | 3/5 | 5/5 |
| Safety / caution | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Speed of results | 3/5 | 5/5 |
ChatGPT wins this round if you’re after operational velocity. Claude wins if you want to sleep soundly.
The Final Scorecard
| Challenge | Claude | ChatGPT | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sales analysis | 19/20 | 15/20 | Claude |
| Stock management | 19/20 | 14/20 | Claude |
| Product descriptions | 18/20 | 18/20 | Tie |
| Problem diagnosis | 20/20 | 12/20 | Claude |
| Autonomous workflow | 16/20 | 17/20 | ChatGPT |
Overall Score: Claude 92 — ChatGPT 76
My Honest Recommendation
I’m not going to give you the classic “it depends on your needs”. Well, actually I am, but with more precision:
Choose Claude + MCP Tools Plus if:
- You manage a complex catalog (many combinations, multi-warehouse)
- You want an assistant that thinks before acting
- You need deep analysis to make strategic decisions
- Data reliability and conclusion accuracy are your top priority
- You’re managing your store solo and can’t afford mistakes
Choose ChatGPT + MCP Tools Plus if:
- You need content at scale (descriptions, SEO, translations)
- You want an assistant that executes fast with minimal supervision
- You produce reports for third parties (immediate readability)
- You’re comfortable reviewing and correcting afterward
- You have a team that can validate actions
Or… use both
This isn’t a joke. With MCP Tools Plus, the same module connects both. The additional cost is virtually zero.
My personal workflow:
- Claude for analysis, diagnostics, strategy
- ChatGPT for mass execution, content generation, repetitive tasks
The best of both worlds.
What This Test Really Reveals
Beyond the Claude vs ChatGPT match, this comparison shows something fundamental:
Generative AI connected to your real business data changes everything.
Without MCP Tools Plus, Claude and ChatGPT are just smart chatbots that “imagine” answers about your business.
With MCP Tools Plus, they become operational collaborators working with your real data, real products, and real orders.
It’s this connection that makes the difference. Not the AI model itself.
The MCP Tools Plus Features That Make This Possible
For those wondering how both AIs technically access the same data, here’s what the module exposes via the MCP protocol:
- Complete product catalog — products, combinations, prices, stock, images, descriptions
- Orders and history — order details, statuses, associated customers
- Analytics data — sales by period, by category, by product
- Category management — tree structure, SEO, product associations
- Customer data — segments, purchase history, abandoned carts
- Write actions — stock, price, description, and status updates

Key Takeaways — Claude vs ChatGPT for PrestaShop
The 5 key takeaways from this Claude vs ChatGPT comparison for managing PrestaShop:
- The value comes from the data, not the model. Without a connection to your real business data, Claude and ChatGPT are just generic chatbots. With MCP Tools Plus, they become operational collaborators working with your real catalog, real orders, and real stock.
- Claude excels at analytical depth. Multi-step analysis, spontaneous data cross-referencing, cautious execution — Claude is the choice for strategic decisions and complex diagnostics (score: 92/100 in this test).
- ChatGPT excels at speed and presentation. Direct execution, immediately presentable reports, mass content generation — ChatGPT is the choice for fast operations and large-scale SEO content.
- Optimal strategy: combine both. The same MCP Tools Plus module connects both AIs. Use Claude to analyze and decide, ChatGPT to execute and produce content. The additional cost is near zero.
- Real-time data connection is the actual game-changer. An AI assistant with access to your real data can spot an imminent stockout, a pricing error, or a data anomaly you would never have caught in time.
The Remaining Question
This comparison is a snapshot in time. Both platforms evolve at breakneck speed. Claude 4 is expected, GPT-5 as well.
But one thing won’t change: the value comes from the connection to your data, not the model alone.
And that’s the role of MCP Tools Plus.
So, Team Claude or Team ChatGPT? Let me know in the comments. And if you’re already using MCP Tools Plus with either one, I want your feedback.
